A Beginner's Guide to CBD

A Beginner's Guide to CBD

If you’re a keen collector of cannabis seeds - and why wouldn’t you be? - then you’ll have noticed that most people are interested in whether a strain is high in levels of THC or CBD. Both have very different effects and knowing what they do will affect your decision when you’re browsing our range.

A while back we took a look at the difference between THC and CBD here, and now we’re going to take a more in-depth look at CBD.

What exactly is CBD?

CBD is what you find in so-called medical strains of marijuana specifically developed to be highly concentrated in the chemical. CBD, or cannabidiol, is an active agent found in hemp that is non-psychoactive and is used by sufferers of conditions such as arthritis for pain relief. It’s also been studied as a chemical to help with nausea and headaches.

In a cannabis plant you’re not going to be able to see CBD but here is what the chemical compound looks like from a scientific point of view: cbd molecule Beautiful!

Top CBD strains

We’ve compiled a list of our favourite CBD dominant strains - just click here to read our guide and choose from our top five including seeds from top breeders such as Nirvana Seeds and Dinafem.

As we’ve had a bit longer to test more of our stock, we’d like to add the aromatic and award winning Amnesia Haze from Royal Queen Seeds. Feminised and autoflowering, you simply can’t go wrong and the yield is a plus as well. cbd marijuana amnesia haze plant

CBD rich or CBD dominant?

While these may sound like they mean the same thing, it’s not the case. CBD rich seeds have equal amounts of CBD and THC, or more CBD than THC, whereas CBD dominant strains are CBD rich and have low THC levels.

It’s an important distinction as THC and CBD affect each other and too much THC can undermine CBD and vice versa, limiting results.

The medical claims

While we sell cannabis seeds dominant in CBD for collection purposes only, it should be noted that the US government have sponsored a range of clinical studies into looking at the pain relief aspect of the compound. In some states it’s possible for doctors to prescribe medicinal cannabis for this purpose. Undoubtedly the strains will be CBD based.

It’s an aspect that needs to be reviewed regularly if you have an interest in it as there’s always new information and legislation happening around the world. A good place to start for more information is Project CBD.

CDB products

Over the years as the attention and interest in CBD has grown, so too have the products you can find that are CBD rich. The chemical is extracted from hemp and infused in oils or high CBD strains are incorporated into food to ingest.

Quality and concentration

If you do expand your research from cannabis seeds, be aware that the quality and concentration of CBD is important and that it should be extracted from pure CBD crystals. This gives the most accurate estimation of the amount of the compound in a product.

In short, CBD products from cannabis are generally better than those that come from low grade industrial hemp, which is typically low in cannabinoids.

As we say on every page of our site, we only sell seeds for collection and they should not be used for germination or consumption. Don’t forget and always check the law where you are.
